Frequently asked questions

It's ok.. we get 'em all the time :)

How do you "recharge" them?
Think of them as a towel that holds moisture. They won't evaporate unless you give them dry or hot conditions. Some people just leave them on the dash board of their car even! Our recommendation is toss 'em in the microwave for 3 minutes at power setting "8." Does the trick! You can also just leave them in the oven for a few minutes at the lowest possible temperature.
What are they made out of?
Inside the polyester/nylon fabric wrapper is 100% pure silica gel that we regularly have lab-tested for purity. The color-changing dot is a simple moisture-sensitive paint dot.
It seems like it has been a long time. How can I be sure it is working?
DryTotes can't really go "bad" because the chemical inside is pure but occasionally, the paint isn't mixed perfectly and the dot is slow to change. If you are questioning your DryTote and have a kitchen scale, the pack should weigh about 105 grams dry and about 135 grams when fully saturated; after about 1 shot glass of water is pulled from the air.
How many do I need for my safe?
This is a difficult question as it depends on your climate, humidity, and temperature fluctuations. Each DryTote is good for about 200 gallons worth of space but it never hurts to go more than you need to make sure. The worst that happens if you only use one is you may have to recharge them more frequently.
Are these food safe?
They are not certified for use with food and therefore we cannot recommend it but many of our customers use them in food storage containers and to dry things like mushrooms or spices.
