About the Product

What exactly is a DryTote pack?

DryTote is a 100-gram rechargeable silica gel desiccant pack. It absorbs moisture from the air inside any enclosed space — safes, storage totes, gun cabinets, pelican cases, gear bags, you name it. The difference between DryTote and the little packets that come in a beef jerky bag is size and rechargeability. Each DryTote pack holds 100 grams of premium silica gel, which can absorb a significant amount of moisture before it needs to be refreshed. And when it's saturated, you recharge it in your microwave and it's good to go again — for years.

How do I know when my pack needs to be recharged?

Each DryTote pack has a color-change indicator dot on the front. When it's blue, the pack is actively absorbing moisture and doing its job. When the dot turns pink, the pack is saturated and needs to be recharged. Simple as that — no guessing, no schedule to keep track of.

How do I recharge a DryTote pack?

Recharging takes about 3 minutes:

  1. Take the pack out of your storage space when the dot turns pink.
  2. Place it in your microwave on power level 8 (80% power — not full power) for approximately 3 minutes.
  3. Let it cool completely before handling. The pack will be hot — give it 15–20 minutes.
  4. If the dot is still pink after cooling, microwave for another minute and let it cool again.
  5. Once the dot is fully blue, it's recharged and ready to go back in.

You can also recharge in direct sunlight or on the dashboard of a hot car — it just takes several hours instead of minutes.

How long does a DryTote pack last?

A long time. With normal use and regular recharging, DryTote packs are designed to last for years — not months. Many customers have had theirs for two or three years and they're still performing like new. This is a one-time purchase that replaces endless boxes of disposable packets.

Is it safe to use around food, kids, or pets?

Yes. DryTote uses food-grade silica gel — the same material used in the packets inside vitamin bottles and shoe boxes. It is non-toxic and safe around children and pets. That said, treat it like any small household item and keep it away from very young children who might try to chew on it.

What's the difference between DryTote and the little packets I see everywhere?

Those tiny packets were designed for a single-use purpose — keeping a bag of jerky or a pair of shoes dry during shipping. They hold maybe 1–5 grams of silica gel and are meant to be thrown away. DryTote packs hold 100 grams, are specifically sized for real storage spaces like totes and safes, and can be recharged and reused indefinitely. The cost comparison over time isn't even close.

Sizing and Usage

How many packs do I need?

Here's a general guide:

  • Standard storage tote (27–66 gal): 1 pack
  • Large storage tote (100+ gal): 1–2 packs
  • Small gun safe: 2–3 packs
  • Medium gun safe: 3–5 packs
  • Large gun safe or vault: 5–8 packs
  • Boat cabin: 3–6 packs
  • RV interior: 4–8 packs
  • Camera bag, guitar case, pelican case: 1 pack
  • Hockey bag or sports bag: 1–2 packs

When in doubt, more is better — you can't over-dry a space. And packs in drier conditions will stay blue much longer between recharges.

Where should I place the pack inside my storage space?

Toward the center or top of the space works best, since desiccants work by drawing moisture out of the surrounding air. Avoid placing them flat against the bottom where they might get buried under items. For larger spaces, spread multiple packs throughout rather than clustering them together.

Will DryTote work in a space that isn't fully sealed?

It will still help, but it works best in an enclosed space. The more airtight the container, the more effectively each pack can do its job. For partially open spaces like a closet or shed, you'd need significantly more packs and will find yourself recharging more often.

How often will I need to recharge in humid climates?

It depends on how often you open the space and how humid your area is. In a hot, humid climate like Florida or coastal areas, a pack inside a frequently-opened storage tote might need recharging every 4–6 weeks during summer. A pack inside a sealed gun safe in the same climate might go 2–3 months. In drier climates, some customers go 6+ months between recharges.
